If I’m being honest I didn’t think it would succeed, towards the middle of the Project GODUS kickstarter campaign I thought to myself, ‘clearly they’re just clutching at straws now’. Especially where it came to the cliché ‘NEW’ stamp they decided to put on the front page video.
If you’re not quite sure what I’m talking about, go over and have a look at the campaign page; it’s a game thought up by one of the founders of Bullfrog himself, going back to the good old days when the God genre of gaming was in its prime. Specifically I’m talking about the likes of Populous, Dungeon Keeper and Black & White.
The kickstarter campaign has been a turbulent experience for them since the beginning and I am glad that it has ended up succeeding, simply because I’m tremendously excited about the potential GODUS has to offer for this genre of gaming. Taking note of the similarity that GODUS has to Populous: The Beginning and previous games, Populous Online will be closely following its development.
News and information will appear along side our usual Devil Worlds updates, Populous news and gaming related news.
For anyone interested in free game promotions, gog.com are currently running a 48 hour one for Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition. The game will be available, for free, for the next 48 hours!
In addition to the Duke Nukem promotion there is a daily deal running for ‘Bullfrog Favourites’; acquire all of the best bullfrog games including Dungeon Keeper 1 and 2, Populous 1, 2 and The Beginning for only $11.92.
The Populous-Online forums will be returning, we’re looking into a way of merging the system with the new site and linking it up to the user account system we have here. It’ll be a good place for you all to share any screenshots, stories, suggestions and criticisms you have for the team about Devil Worlds or anything else you have in mind.
Keep an eye out in the top menu bar!
It looks like the old man Molyneux is heading back towards his roots. (I sincerely hope) Project Godus is a reinvention of the god genre that he invented with Populous way back in the day. It’s being developed by his new small studio 22cans who recently revealed ‘Curiosity – what’s in the cube’ to the world.
I’d recommend keeping a close eye on the development of this kickstarter, on the one hand I feel it could be awesome; on the other I feel they might be over their heads and what we’re hoping for turns out to be a tap-to-click mobile game.

The main site and subsequent site pages will be updating as we move over to a child theme of the latest version of WordPress’s Twenty Eleven theme. Things may be broken momentarily, sorry for the inconvenience!
The website will be down for a few hours at various times within the next 48 hours. The server is getting an upgrade from CentOS 5 to CentOS 6, this will bring in performance boosts across the board and should result in a much more streamlined Populous experience.
Apologies for any inconvenience!
